Sustainability

How We Paint Differently

Sustainable painting isn't a marketing claim for us — it's the standard we hold every project to. Here's exactly what that means in practice.

Most painting companies treat eco-friendly products as an upgrade. We treat them as the baseline. Every material we specify, every product we apply, and every job site we leave behind reflects our commitment to Victoria's homes and the environment they sit in.

Paints & Coatings

Zero and Low-VOC Paints

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are the chemicals that give fresh paint its sharp smell — and they off-gas into your home for weeks after application. We default to zero-VOC formulas on every interior project and low-VOC coatings on all exteriors. The result is a healthier home environment from day one, with no compromise on durability or finish quality.

  • Sherwin-Williams Emerald (zero-VOC)
  • ECOS Paints (zero-VOC, allergen-free)
  • Low-VOC exterior coatings as standard

Materials & Sourcing

Locally Sourced & Sustainable Materials

We source primers, caulks, and prep materials from local Victoria and BC suppliers wherever possible. Shorter supply chains mean lower transport emissions and stronger relationships with the businesses that share our values. We also specify water-based alkyds over solvent-based products for trim and millwork — same hard finish, dramatically lower environmental impact.

Waste & Disposal

Responsible Waste Reduction

Paint waste is one of the most common household hazardous materials in BC. We calculate quantities carefully to minimise leftover product, and any unused paint is returned to the BC Paint Stewardship Program for recycling — never poured down a drain or sent to landfill. Drop cloths are reused across projects, and packaging is consolidated for recycling.

  • Precise quantity calculation
  • Reusable drop cloths
  • Zero paint-to-drain policy

Standards & certifications

Standards we hold ourselves to

GreenSeal GS-11

The benchmark standard for architectural paints — we specify GreenSeal-certified products on all commercial and sensitive residential projects.

LEED Compatible

Our product selections support LEED v4 EQ credits for low-emitting materials, making us a natural fit for green building projects.

BC Paint Stewardship

Registered participants in BC's paint recycling program — every drop of leftover paint is returned for proper processing.

WHMIS Certified

All crew members hold current WHMIS certification for safe handling and disposal of workplace hazardous materials.

Our ongoing commitment

We review our product specifications and supplier relationships every year. When better options become available — lower emissions, more durable, more locally made — we switch. This isn't a fixed standard; it's a direction we keep moving in.
